Director Matthijs Heijningen Jr., whose big screen debut, 'The Thing' comes out next week, is hoping to move onto his new project soon, a zombie movie. 'The Thing' is a prequel to the original John Carpenter movie. If it is as good as it looks, then maybe this guy has what it takes for a good zombie flick. We'll see.

His next project directing "Army of the Dead" with producer Zack Snyder, who also produced the remake of "Dawn of the Dead" will be about a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. The plot has the U.S. military building a wall around 'Sin City' to keep the zombies, and those who are stuck, inside. Sounds a bit like the game Fallout New Vegas to me. Some of the twists in this zombie flick are, the undead will not be the typical slow moving zombies. They'll be fast. And, the zombie disease will not spread through biting, but through sex. In fact, these zombies will basically be raping the non-infected, turning them into zombies, and producing hybrid human/zombie babies. So I guess this makes the movie about half-zombies, or something. Anyway it sounds quite repulsive. But if 'The Thing' is a flop next week, it all might never see the light of day.

While shooting a scene for the upcoming movie "World War Z" in Glascow, Scotland, star Brad Pitt helped rescue an extra who was about to be trampled by a crowd. A scene was being shot for the movie that involved more than 700 extra actors dressed as zombies. Things got a little out of control and many people suffered minor injuries.

One female extra fell and was trapped under the crowd, and likely to be trampled, when Pitt swooped into and picked the woman up carrying her to safety. The woman was surprised to find that it was Pitt himself who helped her. With everything happening so quickly, she didn't have time to thank him personally during the commotion. The movie is due out sometime in 2012.

Talk about turning the zombie-genre comic series 'R.I.P.D.' by Peter Lenkov looks to be coming true now. A cast, director, and script have been chosen and filming should start next year for a theater release in 2013. The movie is being produced by Dark Horse Entertainment and will be directed by Robert Schwentke.

So far the movie has signed Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds in starring roles. Kevin Bacon is rumored to play the villain. And Mary-Louise Parker has just signed to play a prominent role, originally offered to Jodie Foster. This movie is obviously the real-deal with this cast, and should be interesting.

The plot of the comic book series focuses on a cop who is killed and comes back as a zombie to join an undead police force called the 'Rest In Peace Department' or 'R.I.P.D.' The cop's goal is to find the person who murdered him. This sounds like a great idea for a zombie related movie, with potential for sequels. But let's see what the first one brings.
