Zombies ruled Sunday Night with the first episode of season 3 of 'The Walking Dead' on AMC. An estimated 10.9 million viewers tuned in for the 9:00pm showing of episode 1. Only NFL's 'Sunday Night Football' game had more viewers. But just how impressive is 10.9 million viewers? Well the show 'Modern Family' that wins Emmy Awards every year, only averages about 7 million viewers each week. 'The Big Bang Theory', called the most popular show on TV, only averages 6.3 million viewers.
The first episode of the season had twice as many viewers as last season's first episode. So more people are becoming fans of arguably the best drama on television. The same episode repeated at 10:00pm and still gathered 3.5 million viewers, many for a second helping of zombie killing! Even the midnight re-airing had 850,000 viewers!
